FAQ

Do you provide the book?

No, we don't provide or post copies. There are so many cheaper ways to get hold of a book, and everyone likes to read or listen in their own way, so it's down to you to source it. Borrow it from the library (BorrowBox and Libby are both free library apps worth having), get it secondhand, or borrow a copy from a friend. When suggesting a book for the group, please pick one that costs no more than £10 on Amazon (roughly €12 / $13), so it won't break the bank for others in the group who choose to buy new.

What if I don't finish the book in time?

That's absolutely fine. Come along to the call anyway, there's no pressure and nobody will mind, just expect a few spoilers if you're not quite at the end yet!

How is the book chosen?

Everyone suggests a book when they join, any genre goes, so you never quite know what you'll be reading next. Each month we pick one at random from the pool, then read it together ready for the next call. Once your suggestion has been picked, you'll add a new one. The only rule: nothing that promotes racism, hate, or extreme political or religious content, and please flag it if your pick has strong sexual content or graphic violence.

What happens on the video call?

We chat about the book for a bit, then it turns into general chat and getting to know each other. It's relaxed, not a formal book review session.

Is the Facebook group private?

Yes, it's only visible to members.

Do I need a Facebook account?

No, it's not essential. If you're not on Facebook, you'll miss out on the private group chat between meetings, but you're just as welcome to join the monthly video call and everything else. We know Facebook isn't for everyone.

Can I leave at any time?

Yes, it's £5 a month with no minimum commitment. Cancel whenever you like.

Is this only for a certain age group?

Not at all. We welcome members from 18 upwards, whether you're just starting out or have decades of life behind you, everyone's welcome.

When does the club start?

We're building up interest via the waitlist now, with a plan to launch in October. Join the waitlist and we'll email you as soon as we're ready to open the doors.

Can I join right before a meeting?

Yes, anytime! Don't worry if you haven't had time to read the book before your first call, just come along and get to know everyone. You'll catch up on the reading soon enough.

When is the monthly call?

We meet on the last Thursday of the month, 7-9pm UK time (around 2-4pm US Eastern). We're a small club for now, so we're only able to run one time slot, do check it works for your own timezone before joining. On the rare occasion the host can't make it, we'll let everyone know via the Facebook group and reschedule as soon as we can.

How do I get in touch?
